Behavioral first-line options and when to ask a GP about treatment.

answer

Quick answer

Premature ejaculation has practical treatment options. Start with behavioral techniques and reduce panic around the moment. If it is persistent, distressing, new, or paired with ED, talk to a GP. Prescription options exist, but they should be discussed with a clinician.

steps

Behavioral first-line options

Stop-start

Pause stimulation before the point of no return, wait until the urge drops, then continue.

Slow breathing

Use slower breathing and reduce muscle bracing. Tension often pushes the body faster.

Condom or topical numbing

Some people use a thicker condom or numbing product. Ask a pharmacist or GP if you are unsure.

Treat ED too

Rushing can happen when someone worries the erection will fade. If ED is part of it, deal with both.

callout

When to talk to a GP

Book a GP appointment if PE starts suddenly, causes distress, appears with pain or ED, or does not improve with behavioral steps. Ask about prescription options only in that setting; this site does not tell you to start medication.
